A Feature on Sugarleaf Ever since I got <i>a little</i> crazy being health-conscious and all, I’ve been stuffing nutritional facts into my head that, in this post, it got a little difficult to summarize into three (or so lines) what I needed to say because everything just had to be explained! Most especially that we’re now bombarded with these fad diets telling us, “lose weight in 30 days” or “get skinny and eat all the carbs that you want”; as well as when many of us are misinformed of particular health terms that we neglect those that are even important for our well-being. Consequently, eating healthy doesn’t mean counting calories and totally staying away from what’s fatty from your diet but consciously striving hard to eat what’s <i>really</i> healthy and combining it with regular exercise. Then again, the diet I’m referring to here isn’t essentially about those fad ones and instead, that of a healthy but natural one. Furthermore, losing weight wasn’t my primary goal in keeping myself healthy, when I finally decided to <i>be healthy</i> and staying away from fast food restaurants, but I really wanted to distance myself away from ailments that kept me from my daily activities. However, when I eat out, I tend to order a plate of salad or something healthy that even unconsciously I restrain myself from going to a fast food restaurant counter.<br /><br /><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 1pt 0in;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://i778.photobucket.com/albums/yy64/frlanicems/Sugarleaf%20Feature/Sugarleaf-8-2-2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://i778.photobucket.com/albums/yy64/frlanicems/Sugarleaf%20Feature/Sugarleaf-8-2-2.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><br /><a href="http://i778.photobucket.com/albums/yy64/frlanicems/Sugarleaf%20Feature/Sugarleaf.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://i778.photobucket.com/albums/yy64/frlanicems/Sugarleaf%20Feature/Sugarleaf.jpg" width="426" /></a></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 1pt 0in;">Mr. Angelo Songco, co-owner of Sugarleaf, believed that being healthy isn’t merely eating what’s “organic” or “nourishing” and be literally bitter about it. It had to, as well, satisfy the taste and be delectable for the people’s taste especially for kids who are not so much in good terms with eating vegetables for starters. Furthermore, Sugarleaf is more of an organic restaurant rather than your usual "ay gulay lang?" vegetarian restaurant. </div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 1pt -0.5in;"><br /></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 1pt -0.5in 1pt 0.5in;"><h3><span style="color: #999999;"><i>At Sugarleaf, as our restaurant and store offerings are as organic and natural as possible, food is naturally weight-reducing, detoxifying, anti-oxidising (make you look and feel young) and energy boosting. We ensure that food choices taste great so it appeals to all people dispelling the misconception that healthy organic food is bland, tasteless and boring.</i></span></h3></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 1pt 0in;"><a name='more'></a>With glee that Mr. Songco entertained my request to feature Sugarleaf here in this blog, I immediately set a date for a visit to their branch at Greenhills, San Juan. On that day, I haven't had the slightest clue on what to order so I waited for him instead to introduce to us some of the best of Sugarleaf. Together with my friend, Chris, we had a health-scrumptious brunch while having a good health "pep talk" with Sir Angelo that day!<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 1pt 0in;"><h3><u><b>AROUND THE STORE</b></u></h3>When I got there, I had the opportunity to browse through the restaurant first. Ms. Jeren Cabral, one of the co-owners of Sugarleaf was actually a graduate of food technology and experimenting with food mixtures, I thought, was a really good venture that it's made up of what you studied for while putting up a business that's primarily attributed to health consciousness.<br /><br /></div><h3><span style="color: #666666; font-size: small;"><i><h3 style="text-align: center;">We sell directly and give accreditation to those who believe on its purpose for health and promoting a balance healthy lifestyle. The actual brunch that happened. While we were oriented on kefir, a fermented type of milk which consists of a good number of bacteria that's excellent for the stomach but with really low sugar, and that their food consists of organic products, the <i>ate</i> behind the counter prepared our meal. Although giddy and excited inside, I still couldn't hide the fact that I'm learning new health-related stuff that day! Believe me, knowing these made me more health-conscious and it's never been better!<br /><br />Everything was served with whole wheat which was really good since it's both filling and delicious combined with vegetables and a one-of-a-kind-yet-nutritional dressing --- let's go, Goody Kefir!<br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://i778.photobucket.com/albums/yy64/frlanicems/Sugarleaf%20Feature/Sugarleaf-14-2-2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="425" src="http://i778.photobucket.com/albums/yy64/frlanicems/Sugarleaf%20Feature/Sugarleaf-14-2-2.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://i778.photobucket.com/albums/yy64/frlanicems/Sugarleaf%20Feature/Sugarleaf-16-2-2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://i778.photobucket.com/albums/yy64/frlanicems/Sugarleaf%20Feature/Sugarleaf-16-2-2.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><b><i>Iberico Joselito Belota chorizo</i></b><br />Low in cholesterol pork sausage mildly spiced with paprika and enjoyed simply on olive oil-‐lime toast with lettuce, and alfalfa sprouts</div><div><br /></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://i778.photobucket.com/albums/yy64/frlanicems/Sugarleaf%20Feature/Sugarleaf-15-2-2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://i778.photobucket.com/albums/yy64/frlanicems/Sugarleaf%20Feature/Sugarleaf-15-2-2.jpg" width="640" /></a></div></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><b><i>Free-range chicken sandwich</i></b></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Organic-fed chicken chunks with basil, white onion, green apple & sour cream-‐lime mayonnaise dressing served in wheat bagel</div></div><div><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://i778.photobucket.com/albums/yy64/frlanicems/Sugarleaf%20Feature/IMG_4042-2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://i778.photobucket.com/albums/yy64/frlanicems/Sugarleaf%20Feature/IMG_4042-2.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://i778.photobucket.com/albums/yy64/frlanicems/Sugarleaf%20Feature/Sugarleaf-17-2-2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://i778.photobucket.com/albums/yy64/frlanicems/Sugarleaf%20Feature/Sugarleaf-17-2-2.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><b><i>Crabstick and </i></b><b><i>mango </i></b></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Light, fresh & fruity inspired by Japanese maki. I've been lessening my random dine-out days as a <a href="http://fracking-kor.tumblr.com/post/41014208021/dares-to-keep-myself-on-moving">dare</a>. Anyhow, cheat days are always welcome but still limited. In one of those days, though, was with Nixie at <b>Cyma</b> in EDSA Shangri-la Plaza for some catching-up. I wasn't really hungry since I had just gone to a family reunion which was too filling for the whole day. And so I had a taste of what <b>herbajuice </b>had to offer. Located just in front of health-related establishments, it's a good place to go to even when you feel just having to consume something healthy. </div><div><br /><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://i778.photobucket.com/albums/yy64/frlanicems/IMG_1757.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://i778.photobucket.com/albums/yy64/frlanicems/IMG_1757.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://i778.photobucket.com/albums/yy64/frlanicems/IMG_1747.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://i778.photobucket.com/albums/yy64/frlanicems/IMG_1747.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://i778.photobucket.com/albums/yy64/frlanicems/IMG_1756.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://i778.photobucket.com/albums/yy64/frlanicems/IMG_1756.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://i778.photobucket.com/albums/yy64/frlanicems/IMG_1736.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://i778.photobucket.com/albums/yy64/frlanicems/IMG_1736.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://i778.photobucket.com/albums/yy64/frlanicems/IMG_1737.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://i778.photobucket.com/albums/yy64/frlanicems/IMG_1737.jpg" width="640" /></a></div></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">The waitresses there were really bubbly and for a hundred bucks, the <i>Acai Antioxidant</i> that I tried was worth it! I was offered to have their healthy cupcakes as well though I had to turn it down since, as I have mentioned, I'm to full for my life that time. Their counter was full of health supplements as well Going back to what I ordered, though, the acai antioxidant was sweet for my taste; however, the health benefits were what mattered. On the counter, displayed were their health supplements like Vitamin E, Vitamin B and Omega-3! </div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Going back to what I ordered, acai antioxidant was somewhat sweet for my taste; then again, what made me choose it was that I've never tasted what acai tasted like. When I finally received the e-mail invitation from Ms. Mhel of <a href="http://www.certifiedfoodies.com/">Certified Foodies</a>, I initially though that it's gonna be some big event wherein food bloggers would be there but, alas, to my surprise, it wasn't. And I thought that it sounded like a superb idea to spend over the weekend! I'm just blessed to be part of it. :)<br /><br />So last December 16, Sunday, I met up with awesome foodies (it's weird not to call anyone with honorifics here. Haha): Norman, Mishi, David, Crystal, Kim, Jan, Karen, Karl, Sevie, Potchi and, of course, the siblings and owners of TBS, Mhel and Kenneth.<br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://i778.photobucket.com/albums/yy64/frlanicems/Cafe%201771/IMG_1786.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://i778.photobucket.com/albums/yy64/frlanicems/Cafe%201771/IMG_1786.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://i778.photobucket.com/albums/yy64/frlanicems/Cafe%201771/IMG_1791.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://i778.photobucket.com/albums/yy64/frlanicems/Cafe%201771/IMG_1791.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><br />Dressed in my most casual-slash-ordinary outfit, I headed to this cafe that I've wished <i>ever</i> to dine in at for all of my stay in Ortigas as a student. <b>Cafe 1771</b> in El Pueblo, Ortigas Center, is located near Podium and SM Megamall.<br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://i778.photobucket.com/albums/yy64/frlanicems/Cafe%201771/IMG_1879.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://i778.photobucket.com/albums/yy64/frlanicems/Cafe%201771/IMG_1879.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><i>Obligatory group photo with all the food... The restaurants they want to visit are the ones who're far from the commercialized ones or those that are already found in malls as well as the ones who're not yet "discover-able" yet from the majority. Yesterday, we finally had a "one down" plan again crossed off our list and that's to eat at <b><a href="http://www.kogibulgogi.com/index.html">Kogi Bulgogi</a> </b>in <a href="http://megaworldlifestylemalls.com/main/luckychinatownmall">Lucky Chinatown</a>, Binondo, Manila.<br /><br />The mall wasn't crowded as it's newly-opened though I honestly wish it wouldn't be too full in a matter of time. Or was it because it was Monday and people are either in school or at the office? Anyway...<br /><a name='more'></a><br />Upon entering the restaurant, we were accommodated by a hospitable waiter and offered us the menu. We primarily had no idea on what to order! It was a mix of choices among samgyupsal, cold noodles and some others. Meanwhile, we went there when the restaurant was actually empty however, the ambiance was really good! Everything was so... oriental. Haha. Add having a Korean lunch at a Chinese mall? Just perfect.<br /><br />If you haven't tried eaten (which is a must :D) at a Korean restaurant before, side dishes are always served before the main meal or whatever you ordered. In one of the Korean restaurants I have gone to, they have regular alternatives to the side dishes they were serving. Then again, at Kogi, we were served these six side dishes (<a href="http://www.beyondkimchee.com/recipe/korean-recipes/side-dishes/">banchan</a>):<br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><img alt="IMG_0056" height="427" src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8324/8114145613_cf4f32d965_z.jpg" width="640" /><br />Clockwise from top left<br />1) Pancake/Jeon (I don't know which specifically), 2) Cabbage kimchi, 3) Dried anchovies (myeolchi bokum), 4) Bean sprouts (kongnamul), 5) Sauteed <i>sayote</i> and 6) Fruit salad<br /><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/limfrances/8114140433/" title="IMG_0064 by Lim F, on Flickr"><img alt="IMG_0064" height="427" src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8193/8114140433_a4b49f0f08_z.jpg" width="640" /> </a><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/limfrances/8114137011/" title="IMG_0066 by Lim F, on Flickr"><img alt="IMG_0066" height="427" src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8044/8114137011_f6c4390d82_z.jpg" width="640" /></a></div></div><div style="text-align: center;"> <i>California Rolls for P130</i><br /><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/limfrances/8114133025/" title="IMG_0070 by Lim F, on Flickr"><img alt="IMG_0070" height="640" src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8190/8114133025_c4ccf4a002_z.jpg" width="427" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /><i>Steamed Dumplings (Mul Mandu)</i><br /><br /><img alt="IMG_0072" height="427" src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8187/8114139054_71f8294495_z.jpg" width="640" /><br /><i>Salmon Bibimbap (~P180-P200, I can't remember)</i><br /><br /><img alt="IMG_0074" height="427" src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8323/8114137592_b874f122e4_z.jpg" width="640" /> <br /><i>Naeng Momil Gook Soo (P168) </i>- made up of buckwheat noodles served cold<br /><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">We were served on time and really fast! And the bibimbap was still steaming when it was served. Also, I'd love to praise their pancake/jeon. Its taste was new to me with which it had a slight sweet flavour and you can't actually taste the vegetables in it --- if there's any. This actually made us order for more. However, we were disappointed with the serving size considering the price for the Mul Mandu (that much I can remember about the dish) and the salmon bibimbap wasn't out of the normal. Then again, the sushi was good and the sushi rice was great. Having a small stomach like mine, it was enough to make me full even before the meal! <i>Haha</i>, overshare. </div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">For the whole visit, I guess we got what we want --- food plus a good dining ambiance matched with stories between long-time-no-see friends. If it did, you're in for some sugar rush with this post since most of the photos here will be about our first dinner/dessert meals in Bacolod!<br /><br />So our plane landed just in time for the ETA in Bacolod last October 19th and we met up with Irmay, her father and Jerome then went straight for dinner at <b>Chicken House</b>. While looking through the menu, I was completely dumbfounded that I only managed to say, "bakit ganito!! Bakit..."<br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><img height="640" src="http://i620.photobucket.com/albums/tt283/kibumsaranghae/BCD/IMG_8574_zps5c025838.jpg" width="426" /></div><br />Since the "pecho" part wasn't able at that time, they opted to have the wing part instead while I chose to have spareribs.<br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><img height="426" src="http://i620.photobucket.com/albums/tt283/kibumsaranghae/BCD/IMG_8582_zps437531e5.jpg" width="640" /> </div><div style="text-align: center;"><img height="426" src="http://i620.photobucket.com/albums/tt283/kibumsaranghae/BCD/IMG_8583_zpsd1d2def6.jpg" width="640" /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">Having this as a first course for our stay in Bacolod City, it wasn't so bad! Unlike the ones that are served here in Manila with too much oil in them, the food there were deliciously marinated and the oil was in a different container which we can add further on. </div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">Right after, the most exciting part is this! <b>Calea</b>! I've only had a taste of their cakes when my mother went to Bacolod last summer and I had a really good impression of it. <br /><a name='more'></a>Even Irmay's tweets had me wishing for the past few months for a piece of their cakes! Much to my surprise, they didn't have a single store in Bacolod as there were branches in SM Bacolod, Robinson's Place and Lacson Street among others. We visited the one in Lacson anyway, in front of the beautiful L' Fisher Hotel. The interiors were bright colored and calming that even in the wee hours in the evening, it was one of the brightly lit-up places there.<br /><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><img height="426" src="http://i620.photobucket.com/albums/tt283/kibumsaranghae/BCD/IMG_8596_zps8973c859.jpg" /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><img height="426" src="http://i620.photobucket.com/albums/tt283/kibumsaranghae/BCD/IMG_8618_zps4e54df52.jpg" /></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">Like a child deprived of candies and other sweets, we directly went to the cakes display area and admired them. Who wouldn't resist these lusciously-looking pastries and cakes that are priced only between P70 to P95! </div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><img height="426" src="http://i620.photobucket.com/albums/tt283/kibumsaranghae/BCD/IMG_8593_zps4e2b1baf.jpg" width="640" /><br /><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><img height="426" src="http://i620.photobucket.com/albums/tt283/kibumsaranghae/BCD/IMG_8603_zpsd8b4b33f.jpg" width="640" /><br /><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><img height="426" src="http://i620.photobucket.com/albums/tt283/kibumsaranghae/BCD/IMG_8601_zpse1340f9a.jpg" width="640" /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><img height="426" src="http://i620.photobucket.com/albums/tt283/kibumsaranghae/BCD/IMG_8591_zps80b5e56b.jpg" width="640" /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><img height="426" src="http://i620.photobucket.com/albums/tt283/kibumsaranghae/BCD/IMG_8589_zpsc9f3332b.jpg" width="640" /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><img height="426" src="http://i620.photobucket.com/albums/tt283/kibumsaranghae/BCD/IMG_8584_zps6515784d.jpg" width="640" /><br /><br /><img height="426" src="http://i620.photobucket.com/albums/tt283/kibumsaranghae/BCD/IMG_8587_zpsd0e0af11.jpg" width="640" /> </div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />As much as I wanted to sincerely indulge myself into eating a slice of all of these, I obviously cannot... and would not. Haha! Anyway, here are what we ordered, some of which I have already forgotten their names. Let's begin with the drinks then on to the highlights...<br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><img src="http://i620.photobucket.com/albums/tt283/kibumsaranghae/BCD/IMG_8611_zpsc0ec80c8.jpg" /></div><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><img height="426" src="http://i620.photobucket.com/albums/tt283/kibumsaranghae/BCD/IMG_8619_zpsf3a93959.jpg" width="640" /></div><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><img height="426" src="http://i620.photobucket.com/albums/tt283/kibumsaranghae/BCD/IMG_8621_zpsd1525694.jpg" width="640" /></div><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><img height="426" src="http://i620.photobucket.com/albums/tt283/kibumsaranghae/BCD/IMG_8622_zpse4687ea0.jpg" width="640" /></div><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><img height="426" src="http://i620.photobucket.com/albums/tt283/kibumsaranghae/BCD/IMG_8624_zps29896a6f.jpg" width="640" /></div><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><img height="426" src="http://i620.photobucket.com/albums/tt283/kibumsaranghae/BCD/IMG_8623_zpsee269405.jpg" width="640" /></div><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><img height="426" src="http://i620.photobucket.com/albums/tt283/kibumsaranghae/BCD/IMG_8625_zpsd4e441cd.jpg" width="640" /> </div></div><br />Every slice was worth trying and wasn't to sweet for my tastebuds. The apple caramel cheesecake I ordered (next to the coffee) was really good! Of course, it was the best for me but everything was good as well. :)<br /><br />So far for our first day in Bacolod, everything went to plan... safe pockets and satisfied tummies all the way --- from dinner to dessert! Stay tuned for the next food posts I'll be having in continuation. Have a great week ahead. :DFrances Limhttps://plus.google.com/116234282632949663153noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8117541788814459860.post-24004460964295138222012-09-18T17:31:00.001+08:002012-09-18T17:31:36.355+08:00Pinoy Blogfest 3.0<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-jWBQDsLwPHc/UFg987lNCqI/AAAAAAAAEZU/QuFWOCjwNj0/s1600/FINALpbposter-web.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-jWBQDsLwPHc/UFg987lNCqI/AAAAAAAAEZU/QuFWOCjwNj0/s1600/FINALpbposter-web.JPG" /></a></div><br /><br /><div style="background-color: white; background-position: initial initial; background-repeat: initial initial; line-height: 18pt; margin: 0in 0in 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;"><strong><span lang="EN-US" style="color: #222222; font-family: "Calibri","sans-serif"; font-size: 11.0pt; font-weight: normal; mso-bidi-font-family: Tahoma; mso-bidi-font-weight: bold;">Give each side a chance to air their story—that’s one simple solution to settle the long-standing feud between pro- and anti-Internet piracy supporters. The top reason must be that I had a pecha kucha presentation that was due last Friday though I'm glad I pulled it through! I'm entirely grateful to the people who wished me luck since I wasn't confident enough for it. Yep, public speaking's always the last thing on my mind.<br /><br />Anyhoo, for a late food post, here's what we had when my family and I had a little dinner at <b>Pho Hoa Vietnamese House, Megamall</b>. Primarily, the thing that got my attention was the "whiteness" of the place. Because of the interiors, it gave that warm, hospitable feeling that made me want to try it out. Since the other supposed-to-be Viet restaurant in Megamall was closed at that time, we decided to have it there at Pho Hoa. Really nice ambiance and people there! The person who served us was patient enough to answer all our questions. :)<br /><br /><a name='more'></a><br /><br /><br />"Pho" is a Vietnamese term for noodle soup.<br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="426" src="http://i620.photobucket.com/albums/tt283/kibumsaranghae/IMG_5414.jpg" width="640" /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="426" src="http://i620.photobucket.com/albums/tt283/kibumsaranghae/IMG_5427.jpg" width="640" /><br /><br /><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="426" src="http://i620.photobucket.com/albums/tt283/kibumsaranghae/IMG_5429.jpg" width="640" /><br /><i>Pho Ga or Chicken Noodle Soup</i><br /><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="426" src="http://i620.photobucket.com/albums/tt283/kibumsaranghae/IMG_5424.jpg" width="640" /><br /><br /><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="426" src="http://i620.photobucket.com/albums/tt283/kibumsaranghae/IMG_5423.jpg" width="640" /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><i>Pomelo Shrimp Salad</i>. <i>I swear this is the most refreshing salad I've ever had!</i></div><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="426" src="http://i620.photobucket.com/albums/tt283/kibumsaranghae/IMG_5419.jpg" width="640" /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><i>Viet Chicken Salad. I was privileged to have a small conversation with one of Yabu's co-owners, Sir Gerry Santos when all of the other staff members were busy preparing.<br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://i620.photobucket.com/albums/tt283/kibumsaranghae/Yabu%20Food%20Tasting%20Aug%2020%202012/IMG_5485.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://i620.photobucket.com/albums/tt283/kibumsaranghae/Yabu%20Food%20Tasting%20Aug%2020%202012/IMG_5485.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://i620.photobucket.com/albums/tt283/kibumsaranghae/Yabu%20Food%20Tasting%20Aug%2020%202012/IMG_5492.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://i620.photobucket.com/albums/tt283/kibumsaranghae/Yabu%20Food%20Tasting%20Aug%2020%202012/IMG_5492.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><i>None other than Chef Kazuya Takeda (left), the Katsu Master</i></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://i620.photobucket.com/albums/tt283/kibumsaranghae/Yabu%20Food%20Tasting%20Aug%2020%202012/IMG_5501.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://i620.photobucket.com/albums/tt283/kibumsaranghae/Yabu%20Food%20Tasting%20Aug%2020%202012/IMG_5501.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><i>Let the event begin! </i></div><br />Fast forward to 5:10PM, we were given our assigned seats. A</b>. Strolling through the area, I bet many of us would have probably skip this one since it doesn't grab too much attention and no artsyfartsy logos or store layouts whatsoever. Then again, as we we entered the store, we easily got into the Japanese feel! It was one --- if not the best --- of the best Japanese restaurants we've ever went to! It was just a small restaurant near ChaTime but the advantage was that the people there were efficient to customers given its size.<br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><img height="480" src="http://i620.photobucket.com/albums/tt283/kibumsaranghae/Jipan/2012-08-16132243.jpg" width="640" /><br /><br /><img height="480" src="http://i620.photobucket.com/albums/tt283/kibumsaranghae/Jipan/2012-08-16132318.jpg" width="640" /></div><br />It was disappointing that I forgot to bring my DSLR with me hence, the low-quality photos. <i>I should stop stalling at home and ending up rushing to school 30 minutes before class... </i>Anyway, I... or rather, we highly recommend every Japanese food lover to try out this place! And their bread were so delectable, I couldn't get enough! The most unique bread we found was the macha bread which Nixie bought --- only one loaf was left! :)<br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><img height="640" src="http://i620.photobucket.com/albums/tt283/kibumsaranghae/Jipan/2012-08-16131846.jpg" width="480" /><br /><br /><img height="640" src="http://i620.photobucket.com/albums/tt283/kibumsaranghae/Jipan/2012-08-16132102.jpg" width="480" /><br /><i>This grabbed my attention. Prior to dinner, we had to wait for the celebrant for two hours and we were beyond hungry when they arrived. Nevertheless, it was another good family time and laughter was a big part of it. It was the second time that we ate at Next Door and this one's one of my favorite restaurants to date! :)<br /><br />We ordered one of the set menus 'cause they can't be bothered with deciding on different orders. All of the food were really great, nothing was too much of anything when it comes to taste. So we went home really satisfied with our dinner despite of the long wait before dinner. Plus, the sweet corn soup was a good one for the rainy weather!<br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://i620.photobucket.com/albums/tt283/kibumsaranghae/IMG_3764.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; And, everytime we go home, there's that yearning feeling of wanting to be relaxed and feel refreshed.<br /><br />Good thing there's <a href="http://mandauefoam.ph/">Mandaue Foam</a>! Mandaue Foam is one of the top home stores in the Philippines known for its reputation of providing really good quality products.<br /><br />Back in the day, my parents would choose Mandaue Foam for our mattresses because of the comfort that it gives to us. Browsing through their website, I found quite a number of mattresses available and what caught my attention the most is the <b>memory foam mattress</b><i>. </i>It's very important for each one of us to get the most number of hours we can possibly acquire to be able to function properly throughout the day. Well, I know oversleeping should be avoided but with this mattress and its premium feature, I think that's quite impossible. ;)<br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-blkSNfGDWnA/UBHLgTO9WBI/AAAAAAAAEYs/Mv-1okGyTrQ/s1600/timthumb.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="490" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-blkSNfGDWnA/UBHLgTO9WBI/AAAAAAAAEYs/Mv-1okGyTrQ/s640/timthumb.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">You probably would've guessed by now that my most favorite hobby is sleeping. Frankly, I can sleep anywhere! Also, I really love that close-to-nature feeling while at home since I consider it the best therapy ever --- yes, even more than that delightful massage I'll never hesitate to have. With Mandaue Foam's <b>Aluminium Lounge Bed</b>, from the looks of it, is very relaxing to have in our home. Plus, with that coffee table (I love coffee!!), relaxing is even more delightful!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Tc4bbZGiaZw/UBHMkJ3mURI/AAAAAAAAEY0/HDDylOkydSc/s1600/timthumb+(1).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Tc4bbZGiaZw/UBHMkJ3mURI/AAAAAAAAEY0/HDDylOkydSc/s1600/timthumb+(1).jpg" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Last, but not really the least, what I loved from Mandaue Foam's online catalogue are their bookcases. Since I love reading books, I want them to be <i>really</i> organized like, I can get them when I want at any time. Also, I think the edge of the <b>Gregory bookcase</b> from the others is that it can be used as a divider-slash-bookcase with style. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-cn4XjN6_tfk/UBHO8TVUySI/AAAAAAAAEY8/bq1cbXRWgqY/s1600/timthumb+(2).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-cn4XjN6_tfk/UBHO8TVUySI/AAAAAAAAEY8/bq1cbXRWgqY/s1600/timthumb+(2).jpg" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><br />You see, any home can anything you want it to be. The right furniture, the good feeling and a loving family would make you homesick anywhere you go! Together with Mandaue Foam, there's that relaxing feeling you can easily have, no need to go outside.... it's <b>your home, your imagination</b>. ;) Wanna see more? It's because of three things:<br /><br /><ul><li>I have to save.</li><li>I really have to save. </li><li><span style="background-color: white;">Ok. I'm serious about saving this time.</span></li></ul><div>It didn't make any sense sounding repetitive but I hope you felt my motivation. Hahaha. So, I have to cut my spending short meaning I decided to eat ALWAYS at home now. But then, I might eat out sometimes. :) Anyway, to cut this short, I have a new blog. It was in 2010 when Facebook is on its rise to prominence as the top social-networking website. It was by that time too that I secretly stalked this thread on the same website but to make the long story short, it was about a formation of a <a href="http://www.google.com.ph/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=2&ved=0CFgQFjAB&url=http%3A%2F%2Fen.wikipedia.org%2Fwiki%2FCosplay&ei=UacBULjeIKyUmQWetJHsCQ&usg=AFQjCNFOYGHSLr5Sbc_NDJ-ab_rWzAVLhg">cosplay</a> group for Korean idols. My high school friends, which thread I stalked, then primarily wanted to join for another idol group but then, there were other cosplay groups who have signed up already for that.<br /><br />You may call it as a blessing in disguise but with the formation of our group, I got more than being able to dance in front of a crowd again. Regaining my confidence was a huge part of it. And although there were times when practices conflicted with all of our schedules, I am more than glad today that we survived everything and was able to dance onstage. Costume matters even have caused conflicts of interests and I learned by then that looking for cloth was extremely tedious and pricey (transportation and food costs). Imagine designers who work for the clothing industry... I salute you! Nevertheless, the best thing was that all of us was reunited and have created this particular bond (not James Bond, really.)<br /><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><div style="text-align: left;"><div style="text-align: justify;">This entry might be SO MUCH far from food posts but this shows another side of me other than munching and blogging my experiences at the restaurants I dined at with friends and family. It's that I accidentally deleted my entry about Sumo Sam! Nevertheless, it isn't the end of the world. Hahaha. Anyhoo, to give you a quick run through of our recent dining experience at <b>Sumo Sam Greenbelt 3</b>, pictures would do the largest part of the talking, as usual. But for a little intro, we went there after watching Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter at TriNoma. Talk about major mall hopping! Enchees was initially with us but she had to go home after the movie. So, a<span style="background-color: white;">bout the movie, I say our pockets weren't "robbed" and there were parts that made me recount of the American history (aka Emancipation Proclamation).</span><span style="background-color: white;"> </span><i style="background-color: white;">Echusera</i><span style="background-color: white;">, feeling smart? Haha!</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div></div><div style="text-align: center;"><img height="426" src="http://i620.photobucket.com/albums/tt283/kibumsaranghae/Saturday%20772012/b.jpg" width="640" /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /><div style="text-align: left;">So yeah, some more talking and photos after the cut! :)</div><a name='more'></a><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Sumo Sam Greenbelt 3's branch layout isn't so much different from their branch in TriNoma... somewhat dimmed lights and nicely aligned chair setting with the Japanese feel. Starting from the severs, they were friendly right from the time that we were just checking out their menu from outside but what attracted my attention is how revealing that waitress was wearing. I mean short skirt and boots... it's just that I thought it wasn't the right attire for the restaurant. First world problem. </div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">MOVING ON, as our main concern was food when we went there, it was literally very filling for all of us. Not to mention that with the combination of our dessert, which you'll see later, most of us ended up feeling drowsy. W<span style="background-color: white;">hat's new for me, though, was the Spicy Tuna Salad! For a spicy food fanatic like me, I liked it. I wanted more, period. </span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Without further ado...</div><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><img height="426" src="http://i620.photobucket.com/albums/tt283/kibumsaranghae/Saturday%20772012/IMG_3066copy-1.jpg" width="640" /><br /><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><img height="426" src="http://i620.photobucket.com/albums/tt283/kibumsaranghae/Saturday%20772012/IMG_3079.jpg" width="640" /><br /><i>Sizzling Chicken</i></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><img height="426" src="http://i620.photobucket.com/albums/tt283/kibumsaranghae/Saturday%20772012/IMG_3076copy.jpg" width="640" /><br /><i>Steamed gyoza.</i></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><img height="426" src="http://i620.photobucket.com/albums/tt283/kibumsaranghae/Saturday%20772012/IMG_3074.jpg" width="640" /><br /><i>Tofu Chop-chop wasn't so bad itself!</i></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><img height="426" src="http://i620.photobucket.com/albums/tt283/kibumsaranghae/Saturday%20772012/IMG_3070.jpg" width="640" /><br /><i>My food that night was a Chicken Teriyaki Salad</i></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><img height="426" src="http://i620.photobucket.com/albums/tt283/kibumsaranghae/Saturday%20772012/IMG_3062.jpg" width="640" /><br /><i>Dahil di maaga kaming umuuwi that night, ito na lang daw. THE BEST SALAD I'VE EVER TRIED.</i><br /><br /><div style="text-align: left;">Probably one of the most interesting restaurants I've seen on the internet is the recently opened <b>Umami</b>. The name has the not-so-common vibe when I first saw it while passing by C5 on my way home. Upon further research with friend Wikipedia, umami is a Japanese word meaning "pleasant savory taste". Basically, their specialty is their varied kinds of burger steaks. We didn't get to spend a long time there since we still planned to go to Eastwood (our 5th stop that night, btw) so because of utmost curiosity or whatever you call it, we just ate a slice of this <i style="font-weight: bold;">heavenly Nutella crepe cake </i>something<i>. </i>By partners <i>ang peg</i> <i>namin</i> while eating the cake but still it left me speechless, like the angels started to sing "Ave Maria". (Ok, corny <i>na) </i>It gave us 39 faces more of crepe layers. And, finally, thank you to Dale for the cake! <i> </i></div><div style="text-align: left;"><i><br /></i></div><img height="426" src="http://i620.photobucket.com/albums/tt283/kibumsaranghae/Saturday%20772012/a-1.jpg" width="640" /><br /><br /><div style="text-align: left;">Finally, to all Japanese food enthusiasts out there, I recommend to try eating out here though it may be too heavy for the pocket. Known to be one of the healthiest cuisines in the world, the benefits of Korean has reached worldwide recognition. Even Gwyneth Paltrow is a fan of bibimbap!</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">I've tried quite a number of Korean restaurants all over the metro wherein each had their specialties and type of service to their customers. On another note, I was pretty hesitant to post photos from this recent lunch out at UST since the food we ordered were slightly close to short-orders and we didn't really order that much. Besides, I might be the only one who has never tried eating there. <i>Haha</i>. Nevertheless, I'd still like to share this to the readers of this blog. Here it is, <b>Hanayo in UST</b>. :) (See my first post about my visit at UST [<a href="http://shoot-o.blogspot.com/2012/07/meanwhile-in-ust.html">here</a>].) </div><br /><br /><br /><br /><center><img height="426" src="http://i620.photobucket.com/albums/tt283/kibumsaranghae/IMG_2835.jpg" width="640" /></center><center><a name='more'></a><div style="text-align: justify;">When we entered the place, it was jampacked with students as it was during lunch time that we went there or, maybe it's only me since I was new there? Haha. Anyway, what I really liked about the place was that despite the place being quite crowded, the servers didn't miss the chance to at least offer their customers the menu. Also, not to mention the fast service! We were really hungry after the shoot so imagine us if they didn't serve our food quickly. </div><br /><img height="426" src="http://i620.photobucket.com/albums/tt283/kibumsaranghae/IMG_2838.jpg" width="640" /></center><center><i>The side dishes: cabbage kimchi and kimchi pancake. </i><br /><br /><img height="426" src="http://i620.photobucket.com/albums/tt283/kibumsaranghae/IMG_2839.jpg" width="640" /></center><center><i>My order was jjajangmyun (black bean noodles) which I've been wanting to taste since...</i></center><center><i>that long time ago in Bethlehem. They also have a branch in Pasig where it was full of customers everytime I pass by the place and left me curious of what this bakery/cafe was all about. Katipunan branch was not so different, in a positive way. How was it? Let's see... :) </div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img alt="IMG_2696" height="427" src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8006/7453745964_be91d755df_z.jpg" width="640" /></div><div style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><br /></div><div style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"></div><a name='more'></a><br />Honestly, I've had 100% difficult time deciding on what to order 'cause everything is just so tempting! My first choice was this beehive cupcake however, the "healthy" person that I am and since it was already past dinner time, I didn't order one. Meh, maybe next time.<br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img alt="IMG_2685" height="427" src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8011/7453759778_88e3a77954_z.jpg" width="640" /></div><br />Meanwhile, as everyone was so busy choosing on what to have for themselves, I took the time to take photos of these foodgasmic cupcakes! In short, </span><b style="background-color: white;">clingy </b><i style="background-color: white;"><b>kami</b>. </i><span style="background-color: white;">We missed the rest of our co-interns, though.</span><br /><br />Originally, the plan was to visit them at UP but on second thought, we decided to have it at Katipunan instead... have some dinner and catch up. Our first stop, which was our meet up place as well, was in Saint's Alp. I didn't order anything from there but I was able to taste the cookies 'n cream-ish drink. Though it was too sweet for me, it was good. The place's neat, I must say, and really cozy! Perfect for the rainy weather that night.
